Levi the 3-legged Pit Bull is ridiculously adorable. He’s also one of the bravest dogs we know. On January 19, 2016 this 15 year old lovebug took a bullet to the head protecting his family from an intruder. Five days later, he’s chillaxin’ like it was nothing.
Darcy Cherry and Bob Stenzel were in their home when a masked man with a gun came in through the backdoor looking for money and drugs. Levi jumped up and growled at the man. The couple, who had neither large amounts of cash or drugs in their home, feared for Levi’s life. They tried to call him off, but he would not back down from defending his humans.
The intruder shot the pup in the head. The .22 caliber bullet settled in the folds of skin around the dog’s neck. Miraculously, Levi survived and is already on the mend.
The man fled the scene and is still at large.
This isn’t the only dramatic turn in the dog’s life. Bob took him in after friends found him wandering around an abandoned apartment building. No one knows how he got there. Then, five years ago, someone dognapped the pup! However, police found him later that day.
And guess what? That’s not all this pup and his humans have been through.
During a family hike in 2014, Levi fell off of the edge of a trail and severely injured his leg. The damage was so bad that doctors had to amputate the limb.
But, at 15 years young, Levi acts like all of this is no big deal. He’s happy and full of ruv. Like so many dogs, he’s resilient and is too busy playing and wagging his tail to worry about the past.
Levi, you are our hero! We hope you have many awesome (and trauma free!) years ahead of you!
