Earlier this year, animal rescuers in Detroit received a call about a nearly newborn pup who had fallen down an incredibly narrow and deep pipe.
Because the call came in overnight and was left on an answering machine, both the pup’s human mother and his dog mother spent an agonizing night waiting for Michigan Humane Society Officer Chris Oewerkerk to arrive.
When Chris and other Humane Society Officers arrived on scene, they discovered that they were going to need a lot of help to save this crying puppy. Skilled construction workers rushed to their aid, even bringing an excavator along to help dig out the dog.

As part of an ongoing series, the World Animal Awareness Society was on hand recording the rescue.
