The USDA announced a massive recall of ground beef due to E. coli contamination. When we say massive, we’re talking 167,427 pounds of ground beef.
That’s a lot of cheeseburgers.
It’s also a lot of dog food for those of you who use ground beef in your pup’s homemade meals or treats.
Here’s what we know: The beef was manufactured by All American Meats, a company based in Nebraska. The company sold the recalled products in 60-80 pound boxes. This means that they were likely sold to restaurants and cafeterias, but it could also mean that they were sold to grocery stores, where they would be separated out into smaller containers.
The ground meat was produced on October 16 and the products include:
– 80-lb. (approximate weight) boxes of “Ground Beef 80% Lean 20% Fat (Fine Grind)” with Sell By Date 11-03-2015 and case code 62100.
– 80-lb. (approximate weight) boxes of “Ground Beef 73% Lean 27% Fat (Fine Grind)” with Sell By Date 11-03-2015 and case code 60100.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with this possible E. coli contamination. The bacteria can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea and even kidney failure.
If you are concerned about whether or not you’ve purchased these products, contact your local grocery store – and definitely think twice before you share a fast food burger with your fluffy best friend.
