In 2015, over a dozen dog foods were recalled. That’s a big number. Scary, when you think about it. I think we’d all hoped that 2016 would be a calmer year, but it’s not starting out that way.
Big Dog Natural pet foods is recalling its raw dehydrated Chicken Supreme food for Salmonella contamination and its raw dehydrated Fish Supreme for Listeria contamination.
The affected products are sold nationwide via Big Dog Natural’s website. The items were shipped from 10/31/2015 to 11/13/2015 and include all product sizes.
Both Listeria and Salmonella are toxic to pets and humans, though they are usually not fatal. They can result in diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, dehydration and fever.
If you have purchased these foods, Big Dog Natural recommends that you do not feed them to your pet. Dispose of products in sealed containers, so as not to spread contamination. If you stored these items in your refrigerator or freezer, you will need to disinfect these areas and any areas of your home that may have come in contact with the contaminated food.
If you suspect your dog has become ill due to these foods, take them to the vet immediately.
