Earlier this month, the Maryland Department of Agriculture notified Stella & Chewy’s, makers of freeze-dried raw dog food, that a lot of the brand’s Chicken Freeze-Dried Dinner Patties for Dogs (Lot #111-15) was contaminated with listeria.
Stella & Chewy’s is recalling all products from this lot, as well as products from other additional lots. These additional products have not tested positive for the bacteria, but the humans of Stella and Chewy’s don’t want to take any chances with our pups!
There have been no reported related illnesses in either pets or humans due to this contamination.

This is good news, but the danger is still very real. Listeria monocytogenes may cause fever, severe headaches, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, confusion, convulsions and death. These symptoms apply to those who have four-legs and those with only two, like us hoomans. Some people recover from the listeria bacteria, while others, like the elderly and immunocompromised, may not.
