Once a stray dog looking for a purpose (and a meatball), Arthur is now not only the fifth member of Team Peak Performance, but the muse for a 288-page book about success, hope and love.

Arthur’s story first tugged at our heart strings a year ago when, after enduring freezing waters and filthy muds just to keep up with a team of adventure racers, the racers decided to embrace the dog’s presence and eventually bring him back to their home country of Sweden, where Arthur found a furever home.

The racer who adopted him, Mikael Lindnord, was so inspired by Arthur (whom he named after King Arthur) that he penned a book with author Val Hudson based on both the dog’s life and the 430-mile race Arthur stumbled upon.

<“Crossing rivers, climbing rocks, battling illness and injury, the team and the dog walked together towards the finish line, where Mikael decided he would keep Arthur and take him back to his young family in Sweden, whatever it took,” the book’s description says.

Although the English version of the book is not available until May, Arthur is currently gearing up for an international tour to promote the book he inspired.

A true tale of rags to riches, Arthur’s story reminds us all that a chance encounter has the power to create a lifelong friendship — and an inspirational novel.
