Welcome to BarkBites! Each week we’ll show you how to whip up a quick, easy, and delicious treat for your pooch. You may be wondering ‘can dogs eat blueberries?” and to that, we say, of course! What are you waiting for?! Let’s get cookin’!
This week we’re making Blueberry Basil Bones which are made with lots of breath freshening basil and nutrient-rich blueberries for a delicious, healthy treat that’s easy on the waistline, too.
Blueberries are filled with powerful antioxidants that can help fight cancer and heart disease, they restore visual acuity, promote urinary tract health, and can even help fend off mental conditions such as dementia.
– 1 Cup Blueberries
– 2 Teaspoons Water
– 1 Tablespoon Basil (chopped)
– 1 Cup Buckwheat Flour
– 3/4 Cup Wheat Flour
In a food processor, pulse the blueberries and water into a fine purée.
Finely chop your basil and add to the blueberry purée, stir well to combine.
In a large mixing bowl, combine your buckwheat flour and wheat flour before adding in the blueberry-basil mixture. Fold with a wooden spoon until you have a firm dough.
On a lightly floured surface, knead and roll out your dough to approximately 1/2″ thick. Cut with cookie cutters and transfer your biscuits to a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
Bake biscuits for 30 minutes at 375° and allow to cool fully before giving to your dog to enjoy.
