Grieving pup parents commemorate their departed pup with special tombstones and memorial services, but one family took it one step further by publishing an obituary in the Charlotte Observer in North Carolina.
The Mitchells adopted Jill, affectionally known as Jillie Girl, when she was only weeks old.
“She wasn’t a dog to me at all. She was our child together,” says Becky Mitchell, who remembers Jillie Girl as the affectionate little Jack Russell who loved the chicken noodle soup from Chick-Fil-A, where she celebrated her Sweet 16 birthday bash.
When she was diagnosed with cancer, her humans did all they could to keep her comfortable until she passed away peacefully at home. The couple then submitted this obituary to the local newspaper and, surprisingly, it was approved.
Now the world can see just how much the Mitchells loved their girl, and her memory will live on.
