**Editor’s Note: Adopting a dog is a lifetime commitment. Even though adoption fees are waived or discounted during these events, there are still many expenses involved in caring for a dog. Please make sure you are ready to adopt, and think twice before giving a pet as a gift.
Across the nation hungry consumers will be cleaning out the racks at every mall and department store in America today. While they do that, why not take advantage of a Black Friday special that actually means something. There are more than 8 million dogs in the US shelter system, and less than half have any hope of finding their way out alive. This Holiday Season, make a purchase that will do the world (and your heart) good. Rescue a shelter pooch.
Here are 10 shelters across the US that are either participating in the Home for the Pawlidayz Event, or have created their own Black “Fur”-Day Adoption Specials:
This shelter is offering 14 hours of fee specials, with early birds getting the biggest “bargains.” Dog adoptions are reduced to $15 from 4 AM – 6 AM, $30 from 6 AM – 11 AM, and $45 from 11 AM – 7 PM.
2. PAWS Adoption Center, Lynnwood, WA
PAWS periodically offers reduced adoption rates, and now is no exception! From Black Friday through December 31, certain needy pups will have their adoptions fees waived entirely!
3. Metro Animal Care & Control, Nashville, TN
For their 3rd Annual Black Friday event, Metro Animal Care & Control is waiving all adoption fees for the entire day! They are open from 10 -4, stop by or check them out on Facebook for more info.
4. Nashville Humane Association
Starting Black Friday at 10 AM, ANY pet with black fur (even if it’s just a little spot) can go home with you for a reduced adoption fee of $45! The event runs through 5 PM Sunday the 29th. The SPCA in Stratham, NH is hoping to break adoption records this Black Friday by extending their hours and offering “name your price” adoption rates on any adult pet.
6. Kansas Humane Society, Wichita, KS
The spectacular one day event offered by the KSHS presents free adoptions for all black and mostly black pets. They haven’t forgotten the needy pets in other colors either, every other adoption fee is discounted from $150 to just $25 until 8 PM. They are also providing each new pawrent a free bag of food, one free vet visit and 30 days of pet insurance!
All day Friday, Saturday and Sunday the Liverpool shelter will be waiving ALL adoption fees on dogs and cats one year and older! Spay or neuter services are also covered financially by the shelter.
8. Brightside Animal Center, Redmond, OR
This “Cuddlebuster” event means every single pup in the shelter is 50% off all day Black Friday! They are also offering special discounts for the rest of the month on loving senior pooches.
9. Humane Society of Broward County, Fort Lauderdale, Fl
The Florida Shelter’s Black Friday event includes free adoptions from 9:30 to 10:30 AM, followed by 50% reduced fees for the rest of the day!
10. Clark County Humane Society, Neillsville, WI
From Black Friday through Cyber Monday ALL pet adoptions are completely free at this Wisconsin shelter! Check out photos of adoptable pups on the shelter’s Facebook page.
