15-year-old De’Shaun Williams has autism, and like many children on the spectrum, he has been able to form a bond with his dog that has changed his life for the better. Since Bunz, a 1-year-old white and brown Pit Bull, came into De’Shaun’s life, the Williams family has seen their son overcome obstacles and come out of his shell like never before.
Two weeks ago, Bunz’s youthful curiosity got the better of him and he slipped away from the family’s home in Pennsauken, NJ. Fearing for De’Shaun’s emotional well-being, the Williamses blanketed the community in flyers, posted on social media, and took to the streets in search of Bunz.
They received several leads from neighbors and community members anxious to help reunite De’Shaun with his best friend, but every time the family arrived, Bunz had already moved on. Until a few days ago when Gloria Williams received a call from a local man who had found a pup matching Bunz’s description. Gloria rushed over and was ecstatic to find that it was indeed the elusive Bunz!
That evening Gloria Williams was able to reunite De’Shaun with his beloved buddy. The following video from Dawn Timmeny of Fox 29 News captured the moving homecoming. De’Shaun and Bunz’s story is a wonderful example of a community rallying around a family in need.
The Williams family intends to have Bunz microchipped and fitted with an identification tag and collar to prevent another frightening incident. Welcome home, Bunz! – Let’s keep those doggy adventures confined to the backyard from now on!
