Update 5/13:

Well, we crawled through hundreds dozens of submissions and finally picked a winner! It was tough easy (we suppose news/political jokes is more of a challenge than we realized), but the good news is that one lucky person totally rocked it. But first, some honorable mentions.

Margaret Bennett, who captured this dog’s inner Walter Cronkite. Back when journalists were real journalists.

Mark Fichtner, who realized if there’s anything a dog-journalist can do, it’s retrieve things.

And now — drum roll, please — the winner of this cycle’s #CaptionThis contest is Frances Stoneham Ryan!

We considered voting Woofertarian, but really, we’d just be throwing our vote away.

Congratulations, Frances! Enjoy that $25 BarkShop gift card! Have a great weekend everyone, and until next time…

Welcome to another cycle of this week’s #CaptionThis contest! To enter, simply post your caption below in the comments. We’ll pick our favorite caption this Friday. The lucky winner gets a $25 gift card to BarkShop!

This week’s picture is BBC’s own spokesdog Bounce, who’s giving his expert opinion on the debt crisis. Although the real reason he’s there is to promote his new book, Squeakonomics.

Anyway, here are some caption examples to get you started:

Think you can do better than that? Post your captions below! Good luck!
