And The Hero Dog Of The Year Award Goes To…A Cat?!

A cat has made history by being the first non-dog creature to win the Los Angeles SPCA‘s National Hero Dog Award. Tara the Tabby rescued her 4-year-old human Jeremy Tirantafilo from a dog attack, and now has a shiny new trophy. (With the word “dog” scratched out and replaced by “cat”!)

In the dramatic footage of the rescue, a dog can be seen grabbing the boy by his leg. Tara lunges at the dog, and chases it away from the child. Jeremy escaped with eight stitches but no other injuries.

Tara’s prize included a year’s supply of cat food, and of course, her humans’ undying love and gratitude.
