If you validate your love for your dog by beginning with the statement: “he snores like a train, he drools, he farts, he burps…,” you might find that a reasonable person will raise an eyebrow. Luckily, dog people are anything but reasonable in the best way, and Sanaa Lathan is no exception.

You might know Lathan as the star of the new thriller The Perfect Guy, or perhaps as the voice of Donna Tubbs from Family Guy. But her career isn’t the only amazing thing in her life; Lathan speaks ever so lovingly about her 11-year-old English Bulldog, Pops, and shares the same undying affection for her Briard, Sophie.

She told People that she’ll do anything in front of her dogs, and I’m sure we can all raise a glass to that one. My dog won’t push into the bathroom with me, but do I have qualms about dressing in front of her, eating (maybe a little messily), or generally doing otherwise embarrassing things in her presence? Nah, not really. Who’s she gonna tell?

Lathan treats her pups to spa treatments, oatmeal baths, and professional blowouts, and Pops even got to try acupuncture and massages after a recent neck injury. Of course, now she realizes she’s created a monster and Pops demands massages all the time. It’s a lesson learned the hard way, I suppose.

Like most dog lovers, Lathan sees a bit of herself in both pups, too; her goofy side, like Pops, and her sweet side, like Sophie. But despite their endless demands for belly rubs and deep tissue massages, the star says “he makes me laugh all day long and he is the most loving, precious, scrumptious little thing.” And if that’s true, nothing else really matters, does it?
