Meesha the shelter dog became America’s sweetheart last week, thanks to a viral video that should have won the Oscar for Best Pit Bull in a Snuggling Role.

Here’s the clip, showing Ms. M cuddled up close to Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter vet tech Dennis Moses, who soothed the disoriented pup while she was waking up from her spay surgery:

Baby Meesha was coming off her anesthesia and was a little scared because her body felt so weird. BARCS Surgical…

Now, please feel free to go absolutely wild for this dog’s aww-dorable next act:

Andy Isbell, his partner Amy Campbell, and kids Jordan and Zach, had been looking for a new dog.

The family found Meesha a couple of weeks ago on a trip to BARCS — and you could say it was love at first lick.

The whole gang fell hard, and “signed her adoption papers right away, because of how sweet and gentle Meesha was with their 11-month-old daughter,” says BARCS spokesperson Bailey Deacon.

“That was it,” Andy told us.

There was still a while before the doggie could come home, though.

Meesha had been given over to the shelter by an owner who couldn’t afford veterinary care. She had to get healthier before she could be spayed — and she couldn’t join her family until having the surgery.

It took about two weeks for Meesha to get well enough.

She got spayed on Wednesday — and became a viral video star. On Thursday, she became a family member.

Andy went to BARCS and “left with our little baby,” he says.

Meesha’s name is Maddie now, and Andy says Maddie isn’t much interested in her viral fame.

“I don’t think she cares. She loves to eat, she loves to snuggle. She’s a puppy,” he says.

Andy cares about the fame, insofar as it helps BARCS raise awareness about pet adoption, and helps the shelter bring in some donations that’ll allow more dogs like Maddie get fixed up and adopted.

Indeed, it has, says Bailey.

“We’ve had people from all over the country asking if they visit our shelter can they adopt from us, and the answer is yes,” she says. (Here’s where you can find the shelter’s adoptable animals.)

Her family loves the playful, big-eared sweetheart to bits. Andy can picture she and Jordan growing up to be best friends.

Best of all, just like in the video, Maddie still can’t get enough cuddle time.

“We wanted a loving dog,” says Andy. “And we got the exact dog we wanted.”
