- Old T-Shirt
- Profile Pic of your Pup
- Ruler (or Book)
- Needle & Thread
- Pillow Stuffing (t-shirt & felt scraps, polyfill)
STEP 1 Flatten out your old T-shirt. Measure and mark your pillow rectangle. Who needs metric units?! I used a book for measurements.
STEP 2 Cut out your pillow shape leaving 1/2 - 1 inch of space outside the marked rectangle. The space will help the fabric hold a stitch better and give you leeway while sewing.
STEPS 3-4 Trace your pup! I used a computer screen. It acts as an excellent light board. (Careful not to get marker on your screen!)
STEP 5 Cut out your trace and pin it to a piece of felt.
STEP 6 Cut out your felt pup.
STEP 7 Pin your little felt pup to the outside of one t-shirt rectangle. The marked pillow measurement should be on the opposite side.
STEP 8 I used a small backstitch to attach the felt pup (feel free to use a running stitch, or whatever you are comfortable with). If you want to make application easier, use felt glue or fabric iron-on sheets.
STEP 9 Feel free to keep your pillow with the simple silhouette and move on to step 10. A simple silhouette is super elegant. OR, cut out a few more silly shapes and let your creativity fly with felt! You can write your pup's name, give the silhouette a bow-tie, some glasses, etc.
STEP 10 Keeping your outsides in, pin the two t-shirt fabrics together and stitch along the rectangle guide you measured in step 1. Leave a hand sized space open on one side of the pillow. This is where the stuffing will go! Use a machine, hem glue, hand stitch...whatever floats your boat!
STEP 11 Turn your pillow right side out and adore the cuteness of your own pup's silhouette.
STEP 12 - 13 Open up that pillow and get to stuffing! Shred the rest of the T-shirt and add it to the stuffing. Go ahead and add the felt scraps too! Stuff to desired firmness.
STEP 14 Time to sew up the hand sized hole! Thread your needle and start with the knot on the inside of the pillow.
STEP 15 I like to use a whip stitch when finishing my pillows. At the end, knot the thread a few times and snip.
GIVE YOURSELF (and your dog) A BELLY RUB FOR THAT ONE! YOUR PUP LOOKS GREAT ON A PILLOW!
