The Australian Cattle Dog, just like these two pups from the movie Brokeback Mountain, commonly play the Cowboy’s companion.
2. Australian Shepard
Australian Shepards, like the Aussie from the movie Marmaduke, are praised for their intelligence, energy, and willingness to work.
3. Belgian Malinois
The Belgian Malinois is a favorite breed among military and police forces, and often plays the sidekick, not just in real-life, but on the big-screen as well.
4. Border Collie
We all remember Babe’s sweet, Border Collie mama. Border Collies are one of the most intelligent dogs, and are often used for performance based, “trick” training.

Perhaps one of the most famous movie dogs of all time is Lassie, a beautiful and intelligent Rough Collie.
6. Doberman
Because of their history as a “protection breed,” Doberman are often used in film as “the bad guy” or the bad guy’s side kick.
7. German Shepard
German Shepard’s, like this pup from “Cats and Dogs, The Revenge of Kitty Galore,” are a recognizable and popular breed.
8. Golden Retriever
Golden Retrievers are the “all American family dog,” and often play pets on the big screen–take, for example, our favorite Full House family memeber, Comet!

Labrador’s, like Marley from “Marley and Me,” are often seen on the big screen, and are popular for their intelligence and overall general friendliness.
10. Pembroke Welsh Corgi
Corgi’s are popular for their smarts, as well as their adorable, quirky looks. And I mean c’mon–with ears like that, how could you not be a star?
11. Pomeranian
These little fluff butts aren’t just all looks–they are also quite intelligent. Jiff, the Pomeranian earned him self the title “World Fastest Dog On Two Legs” in the Guinness Book of World Records after he stared alongside Katy Perry in her music video for Dark Horse.
12. Chihuahua
The movie “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” (and it’s two sequels) have a very large Chihuahua cast, with Chihuahua’s in several starring roles.
13. Poodle
The Poodle’s iconic looks and extreme intelligence frequently win the breed lots of time on the big-screen.
14. Rottweiler
Rottweiler’s, like this pup from the movie Legally Blonde, Red, White, and Blue, are typically smart and hardworking dogs. Like the Doberman, Rottweiler’s often play the role of the “tough-guy.”
