Sometimes, you just gotta tell that poop joke.
Or so Wulf Beleites, founder of the German “Dog Hater” magazine Kot & Köter feels. It’s in the title. Kot in German means poop. Köter? Pooper.
According Beleites, in his native Germany (a country which is crazy about dogs), people are divided into two camps: dog lovers and dog haters. Started as a joke with fellow journalist friends, the idea quickly became something more. A crowd funding effort later and BAM: Kot & Köter became a reality.
The magazine quickly caught on with both dog lovers and dog haters. The satiric magazine started off with feature about Hitler and his dog Blondi. It’s written articles about the benefits of an alarm system versus the trials and travails of having a German Shepherd, as well as a piece on “slutty poodles.”
Everything is in good fun, although Beleites himself is not a dog lover. When he was a child, he was nipped by a pup and has been distant towards dogs ever since.
Perhaps, however the doges have the last laugh. Although he’s not a huge fan of dogs, they love him. According to his wife, in public places, “the dogs always go to him.” Clearly the pooches are not lacking in their own sense of humor. 🙂
