71-year-old Salvatore Grillo of Brooklyn, New York has named his dog Abby as the plaintiff in a lawsuit against Consolidated Edison because of a manhole cover explosion. The black Lab suffered “multiple wounds, including singed fur and paws,” according to DNAinfo.
Manhole cover explosions were a serious problem for New York City this winter, with almost 600 manhole fires occurring in one week alone. The event caused Abby and her human so much stress that Abby ran off into Prospect Park and was found by strangers who took her to Sean Casey Animal Rescue and later reunited her with Grillo.
