Ex-Fighting Dogs Meeting For The First Time Is What Gets These Rescuers Up Everyday

The folks at Detroit Bully Corps (DBC) do a lot of amazing work with dogs exposed to the darker side of life. Many come to the rescue in bad shape, clearly having been offered no human kindness or compassion. Vito and Maggy are two such dogs.

These boisterous pups were once used for blood sport in a dog-fighting ring. Given the choice, they responded wonderfully to “good ole fashioned leadership” from their rescuers. No special training techniques. Nothing you might use apart from any other dog.


President and Co-Founder of DBC William J. Bellottie has put his heart and soul into his work, and this is exactly the reason why. In a post on the rescue’s Facebook page, he writes:

These 2 canines have shown the most dignity & define the very soul of my work, my focus & the American Pit Bull Terrier. At one time they were someone’s cash register, pitted against other canines & bred for money. Both came to DBC beat to hell & discarded. They both truly had the heart of a champion.
