Those Famously Adorable Kissing Pit Bulls – Where Are They Now?

It’s a lucky thing when someone you see online turns out to be great in person as well. That’s what happened for Brandi Coffey and her husband Mike.

The two of them were home – outside St. Louis – browsing Petfinder one Friday night about four years ago, when they spotted a guy with striking blue eyes.

He was a handsome Pit Bull needing a family of his own. They were instantly smitten, and made an appointment to meet the dog at his foster home — a trip which entailed driving three hours in the snow, and was worth every wintry mile.

“We fell in love the moment we met him,” says Coffey, and it’s not hard to see why.

It was about 2.5 years later that Flex and his lovely sister Miss Keva had their sweet faces splashed across the internet.

That photo — you know it; you’ve seen it hundreds of times now — of Keva kissing Flex was posted to a rescue group’s Facebook page in August 2014. It spread like wildfire.

It still pops up, all over the place. For good reason – it’s basically a perfect picture.

And the fame isn’t just online, either. In person — or, canine — Flex and co. also get the royal treatment.

“He goes with us on the patios when its warm and gets his water bowl before we get our drinks,” says Coffey. “It” — the photo — “brought so much great attention to bullies and rescues. We were amazed.”

The family is hoping to bring even more great attention to the joy of Pit Bulls with a brand new Facebook page, dedicated to this uncommonly photogenic bunch.

There’s Flex and Keva, plus a rotating cast of super cute foster pups (as well as an unexpected rescue; a starved dog the Coffeys found by the side of the road, and got to the hospital just in time).

Coffey tells BarkPost  the aim of the page is to help spread awareness about how great dogs — especially rescue dogs, and especially especially Pit Bulls — are. How much these dogs can comfort a person, how much joy they bring.

“We see a lot of bad stuff in the media about bullies and thought, ok, well let’s be part of the change, lets share the good stuff,” says Coffey.

Plus, ok, there’s some local competition.

Another pair of famously lip-locked St. Louis-area pibbles — Bumper and Willis, whom you’ve ogled smooching in a photobooth —  recently got a Facebook page.

“So we thought why not!” says Coffey.

“Aw, that’s so cool,” Bumper and Willis’ mom, Kelly Garrison, tells BarkPost. “Our hope is that these dogs can be seen as the loving family members they are.”

“Just happiness, joy, understanding,” adds Coffey. “Knowing that they can make a difference if they choose rescue, and how much making that choice has changed and enriched our lives.”
