Everything can change in the blink of an eye…or the wag of a tail. Bryon Jones of Price, Utah learned how true this can be one August afternoon when he and his Golden Retriever, Buddy journeyed out into the wilderness of Garfield County.
Miles from anyone, Bryon and Buddy suddenly found themselves caught in a freak storm. Jones had to exit his vehicle in order to close a gate and that’s when disaster struck, literally. A rogue bolt of lightning split the sky and hit him directly in the back of the head, leaving him scorched, immobile, and helpless. Helpless, that is, except for Buddy.
Although the sequence of events is unclear, Jones says he awoke roughly two hours later to see the smiling face and wagging tail of Buddy…and that he wasn’t alone. Help had arrived. Not a moment too soon either, as Jones had suffered horrible injuries: his feet, back and neck were especially charred, his hair singed and his clothes burned to shreds.
Several weeks down the line, Jones was recently released from the University of Utah’s burn center. He’s very lucky to be alive and he is giving the credit to Buddy. He doesn’t know how he did it, but he says Buddy has done many amazing things in the past and he would not be at all surprised if the dog acted as his “Goldian” angel.
