A baby elephant, nicknamed Ellie, is currently living a Thula Thula Rhino Orphanage in Zululand, South Africa. Ellie’s herd rejected him when he was a baby, likely because he had an umbilical abscess that would have resulted in his death. The wonderful humans at the orphanage, which typically deals with Rhino’s orphaned by poaching, took him in.
Elephants are highly social animals. Being away from his herd was psychologically traumatizing to the sweet boy. Enter Duma, a former service and sniffer dog. The German Shepherd was the constant companion that Ellie was waiting for. Before Duma, Ellie was depressed and uninterested in life. After, Duma… well, just watch the video to see the pair romp around and play.
