Chris and Mariesa Hughes founded the Mr. Mo Project in 2011 in honor of their beloved senior Pittie, Moses (or Mr. Mo). Since then they have saved countless senior dogs from shelters across the East Coast and placed them in loving homes to live out their twilight years.

On Thursday, March 17, Chris just happened to be at his local emergency vet’s office when he encountered a deeply distressed man named Robert and his dog, Ripp. The gentleman had recently fallen on hard times and lost his home. Ripp initially stayed with Robert’s brother, but eventually ended up in a kennel where he became very ill.

You never know why things happen, but we are so happy that Dad was at the emergency vet on Thursday! If not, Rip might not still be here…

The 14-year-old Pit Mix was hospitalized at the emergency clinic with pneumonia, and his dad was facing a $4,000 bill plus additional costs to continue his treatment. Chris sprang to action and offered the incredible services of the Mr. Mo Project to sponsor sweet Ripp through his recovery. In the above vide, Robert broke down in tears as he expressed his sincere and heartfelt gratitude to Chris and all of the donors who make the Mr. Mo Project possible.

An update on one of the group’s Facebook pages reported that Ripp was stable enough to be transferred out of the emergency clinic, and he is now recovering at VCA’s Animal Health Center. When he is well, he will be placed with a temporary foster pawrent until Robert is back on his feet again.

In the meantime, the Mr. Mo Project is handling all of Ripp’s expenses so that Robert can focus on himself, knowing that his beloved dog is in good hands.

Ripps Dad Robert came up to see him this morning at the Animal Health Center. He misses him so much and will hopefully have his housing situated in a few weeks so he can get his boy back.

Senior dogs are so often overlooked in shelters, and their cost of care can be quite a bit higher than younger pups. People like Chris, Mariesa, and all those who support the Mr. Mo Project help to keep senior dogs at home where they belong. They assist with veterinary costs and food for owners in need, as well as helping to re-home elderly dogs already in the shelter system.

Ripp wants to thank everyone for the thoughts and prayers over the last several days! He is stable and has been moved…

Be sure to follow the Mr. Mo Project on Facebook, and consider supporting them. If you are unable to make a financial contribution, that’s ok! Becoming a foster pawrent or spreading the word about the Project and its adoptable pups is just as valuable! Do YOU need help caring for your senior dog? The Mr. Mo Project may be able to help.

Together, we can help ensure that every dog has the chance to live out his final days feeling safe and loved.
