Youngsters these days are often criticized for their excessive use of social media, constantly refreshing their mini-feed or posting pictures on Insta.

While it can be consuming, social media is also a powerful tool that allows for the rapid spread of information. In Newark, Ohio, students used social media to help a lost puppy reunite with his owner.

It all started when some students were walking to school and realized that they had gained a new member to their posse...

...an adorable but lost 9 week old puppy! The students brought the little fella to school and alerted their math teacher, Anji Villa. After seeing that the puppy was clean and well fed, Anji knew he belonged to someone and that person was surely looking for him.

The class adopted the pup and began to brainstorm how they were going to reunite him with his owner. LIGHTBULB! The school's Facebook page.

A photo shoot of the pup ensued and fellow teacher, Mat Dunham, posted the pics onto the middle school's Facebook page in the hopes that community members would see and share the post.

The post was shared 25 times before the puppy's mom found out about it. She came during lunchtime (the best time) to pick up her pup, grateful for the teachers and students at Heritage Middle School who were involved in helping her puppy. Apparently someone had cut the locks off her fence, allowing her pup to go on a little adventure.

And where did he choose to go? School of course. This little guy was just tryna get an education and be one of the boys.

In the end, all was well. The pup was reunited with his hooman and the students learned a valuable lesson: if you are going to use social media, use it to do good (and save lost puppies).
