Tyrion Pittister is aptly named after the ever-underestimated character, Tyrion Lannister, from Game of Thrones. Much like his namesake, Tyrion the dog has had to overcome cruelty, pain, and many changes to get to where he is today. This tough pup endured it all, but it’s now starting to pay off – he’s finally been adopted!

Rescued from a dogfighting case by the Humane Society in 2014, Tyrion was first taken in by the Hello Bully rescue group in Pittsburgh. He later became the first granted animal of 2015 for the Ian Somerhalder Foundation. Established by the Vampire Diaries actor, the IS Foundation seeks to end animal cruelty, support No-Kill shelters, and educate the public on the importance of sustaining the earth and its creatures.

Due to severe damage to his face from his history as a fighting dog, Tyrion suffered with respiratory difficulties. Complications postponed necessary surgery several times, but finally, he was able to undergo the procedure to help him breathe.

Not that Tyrion ever let his medical issues get him down. He was described on the Hello Bully Facebook page as loving Nylabones, enrichment activities and chasing tennis balls with his signature “snort”. His all-time favorite thing to do, though, was snuggling on the couch with volunteers.

Thanks to the dedication of all the organizations that participated in Tyrion Pittister’s rescue, veterinary care, rehabilitation and adoption, this deserving dog has finally gotten the Hollywood ending he so deserves – the love of a family! On his Facebook page, Ian Somerhalder joyfully described Tyrion’s adoptive hoomans:

His family loves the Pit Bull breed and Tyrion will continue to advocate against dog fighting and against breed prejudice.

If you’re able, please consider donating to Hello Bully rescue so they can save more dogs like Tyrion. And don’t forget to follow Tyrion’s continued adventures on his Facebook page.
