One Incredible Human Is Leading The Fight Against Korean Dog Meat Farms

This year, the protests against the Yulin Dog Meat Festival opened up the world’s eyes to the horrible reality of the dog meat trade. The recent protests and awareness campaigns focused on China, but dog meat farms are thriving in Korea. Zach Skow and a group of selfless humans are doing everything they can to shut these farms down.

Consuming dog meat is technically illegal in Korea, but the government tends to look the other way and these cases are rarely prosecuted.

Zach, who runs Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue, is currently in Korea working, alongside others, to expose these farms and rescue the thousands of dogs held in captivity.

To raise awareness, Zach posts videos on the rescue’s Facebook page of the dog farms that he’s been uncovering while in Korea. The heartbreaking videos show dogs in filthy cages crying out for someone to help them. In a recent video (below), Zach remarks that he uncovered five dog farms in only one day.

Saving meat farm dogs is incredibly difficult and expensive. It’s also something that’s often done one dog at a time. Seoul, pictured below, is one such rescue. He is, obviously, overjoyed to experience freedom finally.

The pup was the only dog Zach was able to rescue from a huge meat farm.

And check out Seoul’s freedom ride below:

While Seoul’s rescue is heartwarming, it is rare. Rescuing these pups is costly. Zach is running a fundraiser to help him and his team save as many lives as possible.

Zach made an impassioned plea on Facebook:

“What’s happening here is REAL, HEARTBREAKING AND PREVENTABLE. If we keep taking video like this, working to shut these places down and bring national and ethical shame on those who support it, we will bring down the still thriving Korean dog meat trade. By saving who we can–a few at a time–and using them as representatives and ambassadors for our mission and their plight, we can shift consciousness and make these outcast, forgotten pups, real, tangible, love-worthy dogs. These pups deserve our attention just like the pup sitting next to you as you read this.”
