When This Boy’s Lemonade Stand Was Robbed, The Neighbors Helped Reach His Goal: A Pup

When 13-year-old Spencer asked his Mom for a puppy, she told him they could have a dog if he could raise the funds.

So, he and his friend Spencer (yup, they have the same name) decided to do a classic fundraising move: they opened a lemonade stand.

However, like many startup small businesses, the Spencers-squared faced hard times: they were robbed.

When news of the theft spread, the neighborhood banded together and helped the boys to raise funds. They would purchase lemonade from the (newly re-opened) stand with $20 bills and tell the boys to keep the change. A bookstore owner donated a copy of Diary of a Wimpy Kid with a $15 enclosed and a note saying, “Please don’t lose faith in people.”

To top it off, Diary author Jeff Kinney got wind of the story, and video-chatted with the boys to tell them to keep working towards the goal–and then gave them $150 towards the puppy campaign.

Finally, just before they reached their goal, a neighbor gave them the ultimate donation: a Westie named Coconut, saving the dog from being sent to the city pound.

As for the money? The boys told ABC News they plan on spending it on their precious pup, for “food, its Halloween costume and all these cool things.”

High paws to everyone involved 🙂
