The Corgi-Chihuahua mix was taken to North Central Animal Shelter, where no microchip was found.

“When he came here, he was hypothermic from being in the cold water. He had been tossed around and had a few cuts and abrasions and obviously he was exhausted, but his recovery was really fast.”

Lucky’s original owners never showed up to take him home, so Rachel Dalby, the person who first spotted the dog floating down the river, stepped up and rescued Lucky a second time. Dalby had shown interest in adopting Lucky when he was first rescued:

“On the phone with the fire department dispatch officer I said, ‘You know, I want to adopt this dog,’ and he says, ‘Well let’s get him rescued first,'”

Serious high paws to all involved in this amazing rescue!
