Pheonix was tied to a tree, soaked with kerosine, and set on fire as a puppy, but somehow he survived and wants nothing more than human companionship. In fact, the first thing he asked of Butler was to give him a belly rub. This dog has an amazing ability to forgive, and it seems that the two have certainly saved each others’ lives.
