Ten lucky pups just arrived in the nation’s capital…and boy are they happy!

The Humane Society International rescued the 10 dogs from Sochi.  The pups arrived at the Washington Animal Rescue League in Washington, D.C. last week and will be up for adoption.

“For us, these dogs are wonderful ambassadors for the street-dog issue that exists around the world,” said Kelly O’Meara, director of companion animals and engagement for Humane Society International.

Since February, the dogs have been cared for by PovoDog, a privately financed Sochi animal shelter.  The Russian airline Aeroflot transported the 10 dogs to the U.S. for free.

O’Meara said she hopes to rescue more dogs in the future, noting that Aeroflot has promised to transport 100 more dogs for free.
