Every Cent Of The Sale For This $39 Million Mansion Will Go Toward Saving Homeless Animals

This mansion is listed for $39 million and we’re hoping it goes for twice that, since its sale will help homeless animals. A lot.

1

The California home now belongs to tech billionaire Dave Duffield and his wife Cheryl, who co-founded Maddie’s Fund — a nonprofit dedicated to ending pet homelessness, named for their much-loved miniature Schnauzer.

8

The Duffields have already endowed Maddie’s Fund with more than $300 million, and have said they are leaving their fortune to the animal charity.

Now the couple is promising to give Maddie’s Fund every penny they receive from the sale of Fieldhaven, as this estate is known. Which, needless to say, is a lot of bones!

15

The property, located about 30 miles east of San Francisco, appears to be a paradise for people and pets alike.

16

Sitting on over 21 acres, the 20,467 square foot main house has eight bedrooms and 16 bathrooms.

14 (1)

There a whole wing of the home just for children — good for the Duffields, who have 10 kids and seven grandkids (though if you have fewer, you can surely repurpose some of that space for, say, more dogs).

5

There’s also a spectacular tree house for kids, which might not be as repurposeable for the pooches. But it looks awfully fun and pretty.

18

You will surely enjoy the estate’s guest houses, movie theater, two bars, and a magnificent swimming pool, plus a plunge pool with a water slide.

2

Oh, also a 12-car garage with an attached apartment.

20

And a host of “green” features, too, according to the listing — including some sort of interesting-sounding “geothermal heating loop system for radiant floor and pool heating” that we’d, you know, love the opportunity to examine in person.

3

Ddon’t forget the gorgeous views of the Sierra foothills for miles and miles and milesssssss.

17

Unsurprisingly, given this home was built for a family that’s devoted themselves to doing right by animals, the pets have a sweet setup here, too, created for the Duffields’ four parrots and four dogs.

13

Bird companions have a custom-designed soundproof aviary and food prep station. (Yes, this means your birds would have a kitchen.)

For the canines, there is a mix of the fun and the practical: a personal dog spa — with a bath and grooming area — and a family dog park, with two paw-washing stations.

19

Now, even with all these remarkable features and pet amenities, we are well aware that $39 million dollars seems like the kind of astonishingly large sum that may give you, er, paws.

9

In fact, listing agent Dana Green said said to the Wall Street Journal that, should Fieldhaven fetch its asking price, it’ll be the most expensive sale in the area.

12

But listen to Amy Zeifang, Maddie’s Fund board chairman and member of the executive leadership team, tell BarkPost what that money would do for this country’s shelter pets and other animals:

We’re thrilled to have the additional resources to help further our no-kill mission and increase lifesaving efforts across the nation. Through grant-giving, innovative programs, collaboration and the help of the public through shelter adoption and fostering, we can save more lives together.

So there you go. When you think of the Fieldhaven estate, think of the animals — your own, who will have a glorious life here, and the pets you’ll be helping with this extremely magnanimous purchase. And then think of us, and invite us and our dogs over, too, ok?
