Your beloved four-legged fur child means everything to you — that’s why you sacrifice a clean house for them. But sometimes all that dog hair can really go to your head. Here are some simple hacks to keep your humble abode as “hair-free” as possible.
For Furniture:
– Use dampened rubber gloves and rub your hands over all fur-covered surfaces. Rinse off the glove when it’s covered in hair and repeat as necessary. If you don’t have rubber gloves, a wet sponge will work too.
– Lightly spray a mix of fabric softener and water onto the fabric and wipe clean.
– For wooden furniture spray furniture polish or anti-static spray and clean with a soft cloth, the spray will eliminate the static charge.
– A stiff scrub brush will also do the trick.
For Floors:
– When vacuuming carpets, go over the area twice, alternating directions to loosen stubborn pet hair.
– For carpet or rugs, use a pumice stone gently along the surface. You can also use a FURminator brush, which doesn’t damage carpet.
– Know what each attachment to your vacuum means, and use them accordingly. Check this out.
– If you have a choice in carpeting, try and choose one that closely matches your pet. Not only is it fashionable, but the dog hairs will blend in when you’re in a bind and don’t have time to sweep. 🙂
For Clothes:
– Keep a lint roller in your desk at work, by your front door and in your purse. You can never have too many!
– For larger quantities of hair, throw your clothes in the dryer, along with a dryer sheet for 10 minutes, or use a dryer ball for a chemical free solution. Adding liquid softener to your washing machine when washing your clothes also helps.
– The rubber glove technique also works well for clothing.
– Keep your clothes put up and out of fur’s way. It is tempting to dump your clothes on the couch or bed to fold after laundry, but this attracts your pooch to lay on your freshly cleaned clothes.
Your Pooch:
– Grooming your dogs regularly with baths and frequent brushing will help reduce the amount of shedding.
– Feeding your dog a high quality protein packed dog food could also help reduce shedding. The quality of dog food has a lot to do with the quality of your dog’s coat.
– Make sure you change your air filters frequently.
