Boston Terrier Butch was cast off and left to fend for himself by a neglectful owner. For two years he lived on the streets, fending for himself on the streets of Pinson, Alabama. No one called a rescue or animal control to let them know he needed a helping paw. He just scrounged by as yet another stray.
Then in late November, Butch was found in a person’s yard, gasping and trying to breathe. Alicia Buzbee and her daughter Kansas Humphrey, who lived in a different neighborhood than where Butch was found, heard about him and his struggle and swooped in to rescue.
They took in Butch and brought him to the vet, and also contacted Birmingham Boston Terrier Rescue. The rescue immediately took in the pup, and were able to run more tests on his condition. The news that came back wasn’t good.
Butch’s heart was failing. He had dire lung problems. His trachea wasn’t functioning correctly.
But instead of immediately euthanizing the pup, Buzbee and her daughter decided to do something incredible. They brought him home to give him the best last days ever.
Under such love, Butch did thrive for a short time, playing and sleeping with Kansas, eating hamburgers and pumpkin pie. They threw him a party and gave him an amazing last Thanksgiving.
Then sadly, on the day after the holiday, he took a turn for the worse and Saturday, Butch died surrounded by love.
Butch, we’re happy you’re finally at peace, and we’re glad your last days were filled with care and comfort.
