Alfie didn’t want to be another statistic.

So, the Yorkshire terrier – who was stolen from his home March 21 along with his canine sibling – leapt into action.

“I was just driving down the deserted road when I saw Alfie run towards me, clearly trying to attract my attention,” said Stephanie Law, an inspector with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, who was driving through the Gerards Cross area of England, about 100 miles from Alfie’s home.

The dog ran out from some woods and barked at her vehicle. She stopped, opened the door, and Alfie hopped right in, according to the RSPCA.

“He just bounded in and jumped onto the seat – and looked at me. It was as if he recognized my uniform and knew I was there to rescue him,” she said. “We can only assume he had been dumped in the woods and came running out when he heard me drive along.”

While Alfie’s story ends happily, his canine partner, Lillie, hasn’t been so lucky.

She’s still missing and the RSPCA is hoping Alfie’s heroics will help track her down. People with information are urged to contact the RSPCA with any information.

The dog’s owner Kirsty Mitton is so thankful her little pup was determined and microchipped.

“There’s no way we would have been traced without that, and sadly Lillie has not been chipped so we would really appreciate anyone who might recognize her to let the RSPCA know,” she said. “We’ve learned the hard way how important it is to have your pets chipped.”
