New York’s Veterans’ Day Parade today included military members that had been formerly overlooked.

We’re talking about the four-legged ones, of course.

Making history, six military dogs marched with the soldiers on a float dedicated to them. Service dogs who also are paired with veterans to help them with the transition back into civilian life were also featured in the parade.

Founder and chair of the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial, Lois Pope, funded the float for the pups. Pope also rode on the float with the dogs, as did entertainment personality and vet Ice-T, his wife Coco, and the American Humane Association president and CEO Dr. Robin Ganzert.

As Pope told ABC News, “There are heroes on both sides of the leash. These dogs have saved our boys lives.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves!
