Update August 29, 2015

Doctors at Hays Towne Veterinary Hospital have done something miraculous for Khalessi: They’ve given her a new nose!

This is the first of many surgeries to help the Pittie heal from the severe abuse she suffered. We’ll keep you pupdated on her progress!

Watch Khalessi’s amazing veterinarians talk about the surgery:

Most humans who have faced abuse and torture would become fearful. We wouldn’t want people to touch us and we certainly wouldn’t run up to them with our tails wagging – mostly because we don’t have tails.

Khalessi, a two year old Pit Bull is different. Khalessi is missing her nasal cavity and part of her jaw. She also does not have proper use of her back legs. Some of her teeth are exposed to the roots. There is no doubt that she must be in pain.

But her new humans, Stephanie Paquin and her husband Mike Fleury, who run the small 501c3 Passion 4 Pits Rescue, say that none of that pain ever shows through in Khalessi’s personality.

Stephanie told us:

“She is a very sweet happy girl that loves to cuddle and is very playful and dog friendly.”

Stephanie and Mike rescued the Pittie while they were in the process of rescuing another pup in need. When the shelter told them about Khalessi, they couldn’t leave her behind.

Not only was Khalessi in need of medical help, she was also extremely frail, weighing in at only 20 pounds.

Stephanie told us that they are not exactly certain what caused her injuries, but they do know that they were not caused by a birth defect. It is likely that someone did this to her.

This heartbreaking story isn’t without hope… in fact, there’s a lot of hope.

Khalessi’s vet said that surgery can repair the damage to the dog’s back legs. With proper treatment, she will be able to walk like normal again!

She’ll also be able to breathe through her nose properly!

Which is super excellent news since rolling around and smelling the grass is one of Khalessi’s favorite things to do!

Khalessi will need several surgeries to repair all of the damage that was done to her. If you’d like to help, you can donate via her YouCaring page.
