Are There Dog Toys With A Warranty?

It can be hard to know what kinds of toys your dog is going to be head over paws for. It’s not like they can exactly tell you! (Unless you speak dog, that is.) And because it’s such a mystery, there’s a big chance you can spend a lot of time, energy, and money scouting the perfect toy for your pup—only to get it home and find out they’re less than enthused.

But that’s all you can do, right? Choose a toy and hope for the best.

Or is it? Is there another option? Are there dog toys with a warranty—so if your dog doesn’t love it, you can exchange it for something that gets their tail wagging?

What Is A Warranty?

So, before we jump into whether dog toys with warranty are a reality, let’s talk about what, exactly, a warranty is.

A warranty is defined as “a written guarantee, issued to the purchaser of an article by its manufacturer, promising to repair or replace it if necessary within a specified period of time.

In other words, when you buy a product with a warranty, the company who makes it gives you a guarantee that says “if this product breaks before X date, we’ll either repair it or send you a replacement for free.” Most warranties last somewhere around a year, and while some are unconditional (meaning they’ll repair or replace the product no matter what happens—even if you’re the reason it breaks), most carry some conditions (typically that they’ll only repair or replace the product if it’s a manufacturing error).

Ok, so now that we’ve covered what a warranty is, let’s dive into the question “are there dog toys with a warranty?”

And the answer is—no.

Now, we don’t want to say that there is no dog toy in existence with a warranty; there are literally millions of dog toys on the market, and could there be one that has some kind of warranty on it? Sure. But the vast majority of dog toys on the market—from plush toys to fetch toys to puzzle toys—don’t have a warranty.

And here’s why.

Dog toys take a beating. Your dog will chew on them, drag them around the house, whip them back and forth, and otherwise manhandle (or, in this case, doghandle) them. In other words, your dog will damage their toys at some point (and probably sooner rather than later). It’s pretty much guaranteed. So why would a manufacturer offer a warranty to replace or repair it—free of charge—when that happens?

Dog toys are, in many ways, meant to be damaged. Offering a warranty would make no financial sense for the manufacturer—which is why they don’t do it.

So, dog toy warranties aren’t a thing. But that doesn’t mean your doomed to get stuck with a whole bunch of toys your pup doesn’t want.

There is another option.
