Houston commuters encountered an unexpected passenger recently. An apparently lost dog boarded the 44 bus in North Houston and rode it 20 miles to the downtown transit center.
A concerned passenger watched as the dog got off the bus, almost as if the pup had done it a hundred times before, and picked up the dog and carried him to the police.
“He couldn’t turn him loose, but the guy had to go to work and he didn’t know what to do with him. I knew he belonged to somebody. He was a friendly little guy,” said Officer Schoener, the officer on duty.
The dog is now with the Bayou City Veterinary Hospital, where he was checked out and his whereabouts were broadcast on Facebook.
“Because he’s somebody’s little friend we just wanna make sure he gets back where he belongs,” Schoener said.
