Josh Lucas of Sweet Home Alabama stars in this movie set in Australia. Stunning cinematography coupled with a wonderfully heartwarming story makes this one a must-watch!
To quote a Netflix reviewer, “This is the greatest movie that I have ever seen. I mean, a dog that plays matchmaker for humans? Incredible.”
6. The Adventures of Milo and Otis
Filmed documentary style by the puptastic Masanori Hata, the story has friendship, love, drama–everything you’d want in a cat-dog bromance. It also stars Dudley Moore from The Princess Bride.
This movie may be a tad cheesy but it’s about a small lil’ doxie making it in the big leagues. What’s not to love?!

9. Beethoven
A wholesome family movie, its got teenage drama and family frustrations, but at the end of the day it’s also got a heartwarming happy ending! (With a whole lotta fluff 🙂 ).
10. See Spot Run
Who doesn’t want to see the underdog make it? And David Arquette owes it all to a sassy kid and a cool, clever dog. Let the shenanigans begin!
Based on the classic children’s book, this action-packed emotional ride will leave you both exhausted and fulfilled. And it will be a long time before you forget the names Big Dan and Little Ann.
12. Turner and Hooch
The beauty of this classic is that Tom Hanks’ character learns what every dog lover already knows: No matter how much furniture they chew, no matter how bad they smell or disgusting their drool, there is nothing a good dog can do to make you fall out of love with them. (But seriously, there is SO much drool in this movie).
The Fox and the Hound isn’t just a fun movie about an goofy oddball friendship that will leave you sighing for more. It also imparts an outstanding lesson in love and loyalty, and perfectly captures the bittersweetness of growing up.
14. Marley & Me
Marley & Me was a hugely popular book and became just as popular a movie. It will make you laugh out loud, sob hysterically and go, “OMG! My pup does that too!”
Forbidden love takes on a canine form in this family favorite with a cheery ending. A fun piece of trivia about this film? It came out in 1955, making this year its 60th anniversary!
16. My Dog Tulip
It’s a wonderful, sweet love story between an elderly gentleman and his dog. The story is based off of J.R. Ackerley’s 1956 memoir of the same name.
17. Lassie
This list would be incomplete without mentioning the incomparable and iconic Lassie (even though it’s the updated 2005 version).
