In January, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals  responded to what is listed as the largest companion animal rescue in the 150-year history of the ASPCA.

An unlicensed shelter known as “The Haven” in Raeford, North Carolina stretched over 122 acres and housed nearly 700 animals, making this mission a long, tedious process that took several days. The video below shows exactly what the living conditions were like:

Starting March 18th, the ASPCA in Sanford, North Carolina decided to kick off a very special adoption program for these lucky critters. This weekend only, all adoption fees will be waived. Vice President of ASPCA Field Investigations and Response Tim Rickey told the Examiner:

For nearly two months, more than a hundred ASPCA responders have managed the sheltering, medical treatment and behavior enrichment of these animals. Today these animals are healthy and happy and are ready to be placed in safe and loving homes. These animals will make wonderful additions to families willing to open their homes and hearts to give them a second chance.

Hundreds of dogs, cats, and horses emerged from severe neglect and are on their way to being healthy and happy animals, now ready for their forever homes.

If you’re ready to add a new addition to the family, please visit the ASPCA’s Temporary Shelter. Here’s what you need to know:

What: ASPCA Adoption Event
When: Friday, March 18 through Sunday, March 20 from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.
Where: ASPCA Temporary Shelter
2215 Nash St.
Sanford, NC 27330

Potential adopters must have a government-issued photo ID, proof of address and, if possible, a pet transfer crate.

Below are just a few of the cuties that will be available, but there are so many more!

1. Sunshine is a young, social butterfly who loves to give kisses, but she also loves spending hours on her back getting belly rubs. She’d make a great family dog.

2. Louie is a quiet and shy girl looking for a quiet life. She needs a human whose ideal night is cuddling on the couch watching Netflix.

3. Clover is lovable, intelligent (he’s already picking up tricks!), active, and loves being outdoors.

We hope you can make it out to come check them out, but you can also help the volunteers and pups by donatinghere.
