This is Duke, three years ago, when he met his adoptive family. They gave him a home and shared a love that only a dog and his owner can understand.
When his family found out that Duke had a rapidly growing tumor, they realized they were out of options. So they decided to make the best of a hard day.
On Monday, July 7th, Duke had a party. His life was celebrated with the things he loved—burgers and fountains and his family and friends. This is Duke’s story.
So there were hamburgers.
Yes, he was the life of the pawty.
Did we mention the hamburgers?
His stand-up routine was well-received by the critics.
And then they went to the splash park.
Kristen got wet first.
There’s nothing like a good shake to get everyone else soaked.
And Duke got to break the rules. In the splash park.
That day, Duke said some of the things he needed to say.
“You know I’m going to miss you, right?”
“I need you to help me watch over my family.”
“I felt no pain. Even though the tumor grew so big.”
“Well, I didn’t say goodbye. I said ’til we meet again.”
“I felt the love today.”
Always, Dukey.
This is why we do what we do. Rescue a dog, and watch him rescue you.
