10 Of The Absolute Best Dog Rescues You Probably Don’t Know (But Should)

As are all relationships, the dog/human relationship is not one way. There are thousands of remarkable stories of dogs helping people, as well as amazing stories of people helping dogs. When kind-hearted, dog loving people come together, some pretty amazing things can happen! We would like to shed some light on ten amazing organizations, from all over the world, dedicated to helping our best friends.

India

Animal Aid Unlimited is a hospital and sanctuary for injured or ill street animals in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. AAU rescues thousands of animals each year, like this pup who had fallen into a a pit of tar and was unable to move. Watch AAU swoop in and save the day!

Texas, USA

This Aggie vet started a nonprofit organization, Vet Ranch, so he could give medical treatment to homeless dogs that had no owner to pay the bill. After being treated and cared for at Vet Ranch the animals are adopted out to forever homes! We particularly love the story of Gracie, a homeless dog pregnant with TWELVE puppies, who was scheduled to be euthenized! You can watch Gracie and her puppies’ story (as well as her puppies growing up) in the video below!

Mexico

Operating out of California, Compassion Without Borders is a non-profit organization that rescues and protects dogs on both sides of the border between the US and Mexico. Checkout all the dogs Compassion Without Borders helped in 2014!

New York, USA

Susie’s Senior Dogs is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of senior dogs and senior dog adoptions. Checkout their Facebook page and watch the video below to see how Susie’s Senior Dogs got it’s start!

Washington, D.C., USA

Humane Society International is the the international division of The Humane Society of the United States. HSI rescues and protects animals all over the world and maintains offices in Australia, Brussels, Canada, Costa Rica, India, the United Kingdom, and the United States. To see an example of their work, check out this amazing rescue of over 500 dogs from a puppy mill in Quebec.

Greece

Alright, hold your breath–the rescue of Billy the dog is definitely a tear jerker. This pup had to wait farrr too long to receive the love and care that he deserved, but thanks to Ilioupolis Animal Welfare, a volunteer based animal welfare union in Greece, Billy did receive that love and care, and was rescued from starvation and mange, as well as placed into a loving home. Get ready to see his amazing transformation, and some beautiful footage of him with his loving hooman in the video below.

Philippines

PAWS, The Philippine Animal Welfare Society, is a volunteer-based, non-government organization in the Philippines, that fights against animal cruelty, like the dog-meat trade. To learn more about the history of PAWS, and the amazing work that they do, check out the video below!

England & Wales

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is a charity operating in England and Wales that promotes the kind treatment of animals. The organization has a televised series, “The Dog Rescuers” that allows viewers to watch the rescue and re-homing of dogs all across Great Britain. Additionally, the RSPCA has televised campaigns against animal cruelty, like this ad below.

China

Together for Animals in China is a non-profit organization, founded by Chinese nationals, that aims to improve the quality of life for animals in China by promoting a humane life-style that cherishes and values the life of all animals. TACN is working to end the cat and dog meat festival and trade in China through awareness, education, spay & neuter programs, and law enforcement.

Russia

Most of us heard some of the heartwarming stories about athletes rescuing dogs during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Thanks to Sochi Dogs a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of stray dogs in Russia, similar rescues are still taking place. Sochi dogs is committed to helping stray dogs through education, adoption, and sterilization programs. You can catch up with some of the “Sochi Dogs” rescued during the 2014 Winter Olympics in the video below (get ready to shed some happy tears).
