LA firefighter John Terrusa will go down in the annals of doge history as the guy who saved a drowning pup, action hero-style!

According to NBC4, someone working at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California saw the pup getting swept down the river when an unexpected thunderstorm hit the San Fernando Valley.

By the time it was called in and rescuers arrived, the pup had been swept almost three miles down the river. Thankfully, the LA firefighters’ rescue team was there to save the day! One of the firefighters, Terrusa, was lowered into the choppy waters via helicopter where he swam to the pup, against current, before being able to grab a hold of the frightened little pooch.

It looks like the 7-year-old Shiba Inu had a leash and a collar, but wasn’t microchipped. Aptly named Lucky, the fuzz butt is now recovering at a shelter in Eagle Rock while officials wait for the owner to come forward. In the event that the owner is not found, the sweet pooch will be up for adoption.

Terrusa told NBC4:

“It is definitely a loved animal. “It’s just one of those things where I’m sure the dog just got out of somebody’s yard and got in the wrong place, at the wrong time.”

Let’s hope he’s right and this pup gets to go back home to his loved ones!!
