Down on his luck and struggling to make ends meet, Pete Buchmann had already lost his home and his car when he finally faced the toughest loss of them all: his dog, Buster.
To give Buster better quality of life, Pete turned his dog over to a shelter more than two miles away from his temporary residence. But nothing could stop Pete from walking the five mile roundtrip each day to visit his best friend.

Pete made his decision while he was living out of a tent. The winter posed too great a threat to Buster's health. He did not want to part ways with his cherished pooch, but decided turning Buster over to a shelter would be in the dog's best interest.

Fortunately for Buster, the Faithful Friends Animal Society
appreciated the challenges Pete faced. They were happy to find a living space for Buster, allowing Pete to focus on his own situation without having to worry about Buster winding up in a kill shelter.

After the Faithful Friends helped care for Buster, Pete was able to interview for jobs and focus on finding a new home for him and Buster.
According to a recent update
, Pete has done just that. He has had several interviews and he now has a home that will allow him to spend the holidays with his beloved Buster. High paws to Pete and Buster!
