When dogs look and feel their best they can act their best. At least that’s what Mark Imhof, who donates grooming services to the pooches at Animal Care Centers of NYC says.

His first shelter dog, Sean, was on the unadoptable list due to behavior issues. But as Mark explains:

…If we were to mat your hair, and then ask you to go do a job, you would probably have behavior issues too. So I worked through and [Sean] became the most adorable guy.

He sees the transformations in the dogs he helps too.

He says to The Dodo:

It is so uplifting and I KNOW they will pay that love forward to their future forever homes.

Imhof wasn’t always into grooming.

He was finishing a consulting job when his fiancée suggested he make a change.

She didn’t want to see me go for another soulless job, and she saw the joy I had when I interacted with our animals.

So he enrolled in the American Academy of Pet Grooming, and now has his own pet sitting, dog walking, and grooming business. But he continues to give back hoping that a little TLC will help shelter dogs find homes.

Imhof has four dogs at home, including two Pit Bulls.

The Pit Bulls give me thank yous each day when I return from grooming or bathing the dogs. They seem to know I’m helping their former friends.
