Deputies were serving civil process paperwork to a home in Fort Pierce, Florida when they heard faint whimpering. Upon investigation of a nearby vacant lot, the officers discovered an adorable mixed breed puppy who had fallen into a collapsed septic drain. The approximately 8-month-old yellow pup was filthy and exhausted from crying and struggling for freedom.
The kind deputies rescued the pooch and bathed him—repeatedly!—then attempted to locate an owner in the neighborhood where he’d been found. No one recognized the exhausted, but much better smelling pup, and a local veterinary office did not detect a microchip.
Luckily for Puddles—as he was named by his rescuers, one of the deputies fell in love with him and decided to adopt him. Officer Bryan Beatty of the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office told the NY Daily News via email that Puddles has recovered from his frightening ordeal and is “now living happily with his new owner.”
