Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this article resonated with our audience in a negative way and we wanted to rectify this. It’s not often we have controversy at the BarkPost and with good reason — our aim here is to entertain you with uplifting stories and photos about all of the great things dogs experience in their lives. (And how they make our lives 1 million times better.) The aim here was the same, but obviously we went further with comments that seemed to attack the greyhound racing industry. We apologize for going beyond our purpose here.
I’m certain there are examples where racing dogs are mistreated, and I imagine that’s upsetting to all of us. And I’m certain there are many examples where racing dogs are treated like kings (as they should be!). Our aim was to celebrate the happy post-racing lives some of these dogs are leading in nothing but a positive way. It should have been done without us making a statement. As always, if you have a comment to add or a story to tell, feel free to email me, [email protected], to discuss it. For this story, a thanks goes out to trainer Chris Grieb for emailing in to discuss this issue to point out where we were wrong.
Everybody knows Greyhounds are some of the fastest whipperpuppers in the land. So what happens to these pups after they retire?
Even though these dogs are graceful whizzes when it comes running, they are derpy little roaches when it comes to snoozin’. (Seriously, in the Greyhound community there’s this thing called “cockroaching”.)
Sky exhibits a perfect example of “No Shame ‘Roachin'”…

…while this one is a bit more derpy.

Primrose, a 2 year old retired racer from Colorado, is a huge fan of the “half roach”.
This fella must be dreaming of Edward Cullen because he’s doing the vampire roach.

Here’s Sky again, probably dreaming about the contents of next month’s BarkBox. 😉

This guy is peeved about sharing the bed.

This lanky pup loves roachin’ by the wall…

…and she doesn’t care who’s watching!

This smiley pooch found the optimal sunny spot for lazing around.

Tempe here would like to be drawn like one of your French girls…

…and this one…well, we don’t really have an explanation.
