It’s no secret that many of the larger dog food brands pump their kibbles full of unnecessary fillers and additives which can be detrimental to your pup’s health. The most sure-fire way to ensure you dog is getting all the nutrients they need is to handpick the ingredients, saunter on over to your kitchen, and make it yourself.
While this may seem like a daunting or even unnecessary task, spending just an hour in the kitchen will yield more delicious, healthy dog food than you’ll know what to do with! Not only is acting as your pup’s own personal nutritionist an easy way to boost their health, but it will save you a muttload of money too!
Ingredients:
– 2 lbs. Chicken Thighs or Drumsticks (with skin & bone intact)

– 2 Small Sweet Potatoes (diced)
– 1 Potato (diced)
– 2 Cups Butternut Squash (diced)

Step 1
Cut up your produce.
Step 2
You’re done. Well, not quite. But pretty much.
Heat 3 cups of water in your crockpot over low heat and add in the chicken.
Step 3
Add the other ingredients, one and a time, and top off with the remaining cup of water.
Step 4
Set it and forget it. Seriously. Go to work, take your dog to the park, binge watch Netflix, whatevs. Eight hours later you will have more fresh and delicious dog food than you know what to do with.
Here’s what it will look like about 5 hours in:
It’s starting to smell amazing in here!
Once it’s finished, be sure to remove all the bones from the chicken (it should pretty much fall off at this point). I usually refrigerate 4 or 5 days worth of food at a time and just pop the rest in the freezer.
