Do you desire a pup but are worried that THIS will become your life?
Or, maybe you’re dreaming of owning your own furry friend … except that all of that fluff makes you sneeze uncontrollably?
Well, don’t you fret, these 18 dog breeds are less likely to make you reach for the Claritin! Just remember to check with your doctor if your allergy is very severe!
1. Brussels Griffon
Despite looking a bit like Chewbacca, the Brussels Griffon breed barely sheds, are great watchdogs and are known to be pretty friendly! *insert Chewbacca howl growl here*
2. Tibetan Terrier
These loyal, smart pups love to play and are great family dogs. Despite being hypoallergenic, they still have a TON of hair, so if you enjoy the calming motion of brushing a pup, the Tibetan Terrier might be for you.
3. Shih Tzu
What do you get when you cross a Bulldog with a Shih Tzu? Ummm anyways… despite being just about the fluffiest, these little dudes do not shed! So, while you might have to put up with some really corny Shih Tzu jokes, at least you’ll be saving money on tissues!
4. Lhasa Apso
The mellow Lhasa Apso is well known for its great temperament and eager-to-please pawsonality. The breed is perfect for families with that one brother who’s allergic to dogs and has ruined everyone’s dreams of getting a puppy.
5. Poodle
Maybe you love dogs but have to admit sometimes people who have dogs… well, smell like they have dogs. The Poodle is the breed for you! Not only do they not smell, they’re considered to be one of the smartest dog breeds around! Clearly, they’re smart enough to figure out basic hygiene goes a long way.
6. Portugese Water Dog
This breed was famously adopted by the Obamas – they now have two! These pups are high energy, yet are still considered great family pets, especially for very active families. I’m thinking if your family even slightly resembles The Incredibles, you’ll do well with one of these fluffbutts.
7. Wheaten Terrier (Soft-Coated)
The “poor man’s Wolfhound”?? We think not! These gentle giants are smart, love to play, and are considered much more chill than many other types of Terriers.
8. Border Terrier
These wiry-coated pups are intelligent, love to be with their master, and are fairly adorable. Bonus points for their adorable little black noses!
9. Yorkie (Yorkshire Terrier)
Who knew that the beloved Yorkie also won’t make your eyes go all red OR shed all over the house? Just another reason that you need one of these super cute pups. YOU NEED ONE!
10. Westie (West Highland White Terrier)
These devoted and social little dogs do shed a little BUT are still considered good for people with allergies due to their double-coat! Go Westie, young man!
11. Havanese
Super attached to their owners, these dogs gained the nickname “velcro dogs” for stickin’ to their masters like velcro! Sounds ideal for those looking for a constant companion pup.
12. Kerry Blue Terrier
Senstive, loving, energetic, sweet, and doesn’t shed? Sounds like my perfect man!
13. Bichon Frise
Bichon Frise’s are notoriously self-reliant, but they also love to be around people! They would do best with patient owners who aren’t necessarily adverse to barking. (These pups LOVE to be vocal!)
14. Chinese Crested
Is it a dog? Is it a living cotton ball? The world may never know! Fortunately for allergy sufferers, these interesting looking pups are easy going and good with families.
15. Irish Water Spaniel
Spritely and sporty, these outdoor-loving dogs will do well with an energetic owner who just wants an affectionate, and hypoallergenic pup.
16. Scottie (Scottish Terrier)
Adorable, sociable, pups with great dispositions? Sounds ideal! Scottie’s can be a bit protective towards those they love but they still make good companions.
17. Australian Silky Terrier
While they’re not usually great family dogs, Silky Terriers are perfect for those looking for a buddy to cuddle with on the reg.
18. Labradoodle
There’s a reason that Labradoodles have become crazy popular family pets! Sweet, energetic and relatively easy to train (start them early!), these large fluff balls are fun pups.
