Dog Rescued from Puppy Mill Snuggles for the First Time

In what is sure to be a tear-jerker, a video of a cautious puppy snuggling with her foster dad for the first time has hit the Interwebs.

Noisette was one of 132 dogs rescued from a northern Virginia puppy mill in early July.  Dogs XL Rescue, a Baltimore-based big dogs group, helped with the bust.  Noisette, who is believed to be between 1 and 3 years old, was severely malnourished, dehydrated, and covered in fleas, dirt and feces.  She was also in bad shape emotionally.

Anne Wuhrer, who helps run Dogs XL Rescue, took in the scared and emotionally downtrodden pup.  Wuhrer said her husband, Chris, would lie completely still for 20 minutes in hopes that Noisette would come to him.  The video below shows what is believed to be Noisette’s first ever snuggle with a human.

Thanks to the love and patience of the Wuhrers, Noisette is finally learning to trust people.  She is even sleeping in their bed now — the first foster allowed to do so.  “She waits until we stop moving and then hops in and snuggles in my neck, snorting occasionally and snoring,” Wuhrer says. “She had us at the first snort, really.”

According to a Huffington Post article, “Prosecutors have said they expect to file charges against the woman who owns the kennel Noisette and the others came from, and some of the rescues are already available for adoption.”

Noisette is doing much better and will soon be ready for her forever home!  To learn more about adopting Noisette or other rescued dogs available for adoption, visit Dogs XL Rescue.
